walmart gang threat hoax

JEFFERSON CITY -- A cell phone text message warning women about gang violence and murder at an undisclosed Wal-Mart is a hoax, according to police."When I first saw it I was wondering how legitimate it was," said Marian Phillips-Gant who received the text message hoax. "I did not know."The text, which circulated throughout central Missouri Thursday afternoon, read: "Dont go to any walmart tonight. Gang initiation to shoot 3 women. Not sure which walmart. And confirmed on tv."Another text, with a slight variation, said: "three women will be shot this is not a joke." Most said to pass the message on "to all girls," that it's better to be "safe" than sorry.
